South Africa Crush India by 76 Runs in Ahmedabad

South Africa national cricket team delivered a commanding all-round performance to hand India national cricket team a heavy 76-run defeat in their T20 World Cup Super Eights clash on Sunday.

Chasing a challenging target of 188 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India were bowled out for just 111, suffering a significant blow not only in terms of points but also net run rate.

Miller, Brevis Rescue Proteas

South Africa’s innings did not begin smoothly. Opting to bat first, the Proteas were rattled early and slipped to 20 for 3, with Jasprit Bumrah striking incisively. The Indian pacer finished with impressive figures of 3 for 15, keeping the pressure on throughout his spell.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically once David Miller and Dewald Brevis joined forces. The duo counterattacked brilliantly, adding 97 runs in just 50 deliveries to pull South Africa out of trouble.

Miller led the charge with a composed yet aggressive 63 off 35 balls, while Brevis contributed a fluent 45 off 29 deliveries. Later in the innings, Tristan Stubbs provided the finishing touches with a blistering unbeaten 44 off 24 balls, ensuring South Africa reached a formidable 187 for 7 despite losing a few wickets in the closing overs.

India Falter in Chase

India began the contest strongly with the ball but failed to capitalise on their early dominance. The complexion of the game changed during the middle overs, where South Africa’s counterattack left the hosts playing catch-up.

In response, India’s batting unit never quite settled. The South African bowlers executed their plans with discipline and consistency, exploiting the conditions effectively. Regular wickets prevented any meaningful partnerships from developing, and the chase gradually drifted out of reach.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led side struggled to build momentum, eventually folding for 111. Marco Jansen claimed the final wicket of Jasprit Bumrah to seal a comprehensive victory.
