Opting to build steadily rather than attack recklessly, Hope crafted a fluent 75 off 46 deliveries, striking six fours and four sixes. His innings blended patience with controlled aggression, gradually lifting the scoring rate while keeping the innings stable at crucial moments.

West Indies, however, did not enjoy an ideal start. Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer departed early to the seamers, leaving the middle order to rebuild. Roston Chase struggled for fluency during his 24 off 25 balls before falling to spin, while Rovman Powell was dismissed soon after attempting to accelerate.

Italy’s bowlers kept things tight in the latter overs. Leg-spinner Crishan Kalugamage struck twice to restrict the late flourish, removing Hope with a clever googly and sending Jason Holder back shortly after. Sherfane Rutherford provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 24, helping West Indies post 165 for six.

Italy’s reply began with intent but quickly lost direction as wickets fell at regular intervals. Pacers Shamar Joseph (4/30) and Matthew Forde (3/19) dismantled the chase, ensuring the target remained out of reach.

Despite the defeat, Italy earned praise for its disciplined bowling and energetic fielding. Head coach John Davison revealed before the match that the team’s spirited campaign would be formally recognised back home, with a reception planned by the Italian Senate.

The victory allowed West Indies to end their group stage on a high, carrying momentum into the next phase of the tournament, while Italy bowed out with a performance that underlined its growing competitiveness on the global stage.
