T20 World Cup: Scotland Hammer Italy by 73 Runs at Eden Gardens

Scotland secured their maiden victory at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, defeating Italy by a convincing 73-run margin at Eden Gardens on Monday.

Batting first, Scotland posted a formidable total of 207/5, powered by a brilliant innings from George Munsey, who scored 84 off 54 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. Opening partner Michael Jones contributed a steady 37 from 30 deliveries, helping Scotland reach 50 runs by the seventh over and maintain control over the debutant Italian side.

After the top-order, Brandon McMullen and captain Richie Berrington accelerated the scoring, taking Scotland past 150 with a 48-run partnership. In the final overs, McMullen remained unbeaten on 41 off 18 balls, hitting four sixes, while Michael Leask added a blistering 22 off five balls, including two sixes, to push Scotland to a challenging total.

Italy’s chase never got off the ground. Skipper Wayne Madsen was ruled out mid-match due to a shoulder injury, leaving the batting line-up short of firepower. Ben Manenti top-scored with 52 off 31 balls (five fours, one six), supported by Harry Manenti’s 37 and JJ Smuts’ 22. The rest of the lineup struggled under pressure.

Scotland’s bowling spearhead Michael Leask produced a match-winning performance, claiming 4/17 in four overs. Mark Watt took two wickets, while Brad Currie, Brad Wheal, and Oliver Davidson picked up one each, ensuring Italy were bowled out for 134 in 16.4 overs.
