The incident occurred in the Fakirganj area under the Lakhipur electricity sub-division. Sahab Uddin, a resident of Dhapanpara village, received an electricity bill amounting to ₹1,29,074 for one month, leaving him completely stunned.

According to reports, Sahab Uddin is an ordinary citizen who was earlier running a small ice factory. During the period when the factory was operational, his monthly electricity bills ranged between ₹2,800 and ₹3,000. He has a clean payment record and has always cleared his bills on time, with no outstanding dues against his name.

Sahab Uddin also stated that the ice factory has been completely shut down due to the winter season. In such a situation, the sudden issuance of an electricity bill exceeding one lakh rupees—without any prior notice or clear explanation—has raised serious questions about the functioning and billing practices of the electricity department.

The unusually high and unexplained bill has not only shocked the consumer but has also shaken public confidence in the officials and staff of the Lakhipur electricity sub-division. Local residents have expressed concern over the reliability and transparency of the department.

Following the incident, Sahab Uddin submitted a written complaint to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Lakhipur electricity sub-division, seeking clarification and correction of the bill. However, after reviewing the complaint, departmental officials reportedly advised him to pay 50 percent of the billed amount. Sahab Uddin refused, terming the bill unjustified and irrational.

He has now demanded that the electricity department conduct a proper investigation into the matter and provide a realistic resolution at the earliest. Failing this, Sahab Uddin has warned that he will be forced to seek legal recourse to protect his rights.
