The visit is seen as a crucial step ahead of the announcement of the election schedule. The Assam government has formally proposed to the Election Commission that the elections be held in one phase. Officials believe that a single-phase election could ensure smoother administration and streamlined deployment of resources, provided adequate security arrangements are in place. To facilitate this plan, the state government has sought additional security personnel from the Centre. Conducting the elections in one phase would require a substantial security presence across all constituencies simultaneously, prompting the request for enhanced central force deployment.During the previous Assembly elections, a total of 375 companies of security forces were deployed across the state. This included both central armed police forces and state security personnel. This time, Assam Police has proposed the deployment of a higher number of security force companies compared to the last election, underscoring the emphasis on ensuring peaceful and orderly polling throughout the state. The final decision on the number of phases and the scale of security deployment will be taken by the Election Commission after completing its assessment. Also Read: “Swore at Maa Kamakhya, Now BJP”: Gaurav Gogoi’s Big Attack on Bhupen BorahAdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
