According to allegations, several candidates of Bihari origin obtained employment by identifying themselves as members of the Tea Tribe and Adivasi communities and submitting OBC certificates. The issue has triggered scrutiny across multiple departments and raised concerns about the misuse of reservation benefits.

Officials stated that, under the present state government, the 108 candidates appointed with suspected caste credentials have been asked to furnish explanations. A scrutiny committee constituted by the government has also summoned the candidates for detailed verification of their documents.

The ongoing review covers appointments across sectors, including 38 candidates recruited under ADRE and 70 others serving as teachers, constables, and personnel in the health department. Authorities are currently re-examining the authenticity of their caste certificates and related records.

The alleged irregularities were reportedly brought to light by the Assam Tea Tribe National Convention, prompting the government to initiate an inquiry and form a dedicated verification committee.

As part of the process, the summoned candidates appeared on Wednesday at the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes to present their documents and respond to the allegations.

Meanwhile, several candidates have denied wrongdoing and claimed that they are being subjected to unnecessary harassment, asserting that their certificates were obtained through due procedure.

One candidate from the Barak Valley alleged that his appointment has been put on hold on the grounds that individuals from the Barak Valley are not recognised under the Tea Tribe category.

Another candidate claimed that despite submitting all relevant documents, officials dismissed them as fraudulent without providing any valid justification or evidence.

The verification process is expected to continue, with officials indicating that further action will depend on the findings of the scrutiny committee.
