In a major security lapse, four inmates escaped from the Sadiya District Jail on Wednesday afternoon, causing widespread panic and concern across the region. The jailbreak took place in broad daylight from the high-security jail located in the heart of Chapakhowa town, raising serious questions about prison security arrangements.

According to reliable sources, the escaped inmates have been identified as Nabin Buragohain of Padumpukhuri village in Sadiya, who was imprisoned on charges of murder; Amlanjyoti Chetia, a resident of Nachai village, who was lodged in the jail in connection with a gold theft case; and two other inmates, Shashidhar Deuri and Sonto Sonowal.

Following the incident, the Sadiya district police launched an intensive search operation to track down and apprehend the fugitives. Security has been tightened across the district, and checkpoints have been set up at key locations as part of the manhunt.

Meanwhile, the jail authorities, including the superintendent of Sadiya District Jail, have refrained from commenting on the incident. Despite repeated attempts by media personnel to seek clarification, no official statement has been issued so far. The daring escape has triggered shock and anxiety among residents, with demands growing for a thorough investigation into the lapse that led to the jailbreak.
