A tragic incident was reported from the Belpara char area of Tamarhat on Tuesday after a country boat sank in the Gangadhar River, leaving three students missing.

According to sources, a group of 22 minor students had gone to Belpara to attend a funeral ceremony at the residence of Nabeel Ali. The ceremony was held in memory of Nabeel Ali’s father.

While returning home after the ceremony, the country boat carrying the group overturned in the Gangadhar River, triggering panic among the passengers.

Local residents rushed to the spot and managed to rescue 19 people from the river. However, three persons—identified as Saha Alam, Mofida, and Sarmin—remain missing.

All the victims are residents of Sagunchara village under the Tamarhat area.

Police personnel from Chotoguma police station reached the spot soon after the incident and have begun preliminary inquiries. As of the latest reports, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team has not yet arrived at the site.

Rescue operations are expected to continue as authorities monitor the situation.
