The arrest followed reports that he distributed the images after she turned down his marriage proposal.Nidarshana Sarma Feb 27, 2026 11:37 ISTCachar Police have arrested a youth from Hyderabad for allegedly creating and circulating obscene AI-generated images of a young woman on social media after she rejected his marriage proposal.AdvertismentAccording to police sources, the incident dates back nearly two months when Ripon Nath, a resident of Ratabari in Sribhumi district, reportedly obtained the mobile number of a young woman from Gumrah in Cachar and proposed marriage to her. After the woman declined the proposal, Nath allegedly created a fake Facebook account in her name and began sharing manipulated and obscene AI-generated images, causing severe mental distress to the victim.Unable to cope with the harassment, the woman lodged an FIR against the accused at the Gumrah Police Outpost.Following the complaint, police initially contacted Nath over the phone and urged him to stop the activities. However, he allegedly reacted aggressively instead of cooperating. During the course of the investigation, police also found that Nath had created fake social media profiles of two to three other women from the Barak Valley and subjected them to similar harassment.AdvertismentActing on technical inputs, a team from Gumrah Police travelled to Hyderabad, tracked the accused through mobile location data, and arrested him before bringing him back to Cachar.Police said that upon being brought to Gumrah, the accused confessed to creating the fake account in the victim’s name and attempting to blackmail her.
