Assam: Youth Arrested for Making Reel with Pistol on Guwahati Streets

Guwahati: A young man was arrested by Dispur Police on Saturday night from the Lokhra–Sawkuchi area for allegedly creating and sharing a social media reel featuring a pistol while riding in a luxury vehicle.

According to police, the video, which recently went viral on social media, showed the youth displaying what appeared to be a pistol while seated inside a Thar vehicle. Acting on the viral clip, police launched an investigation and detained one of the individuals involved. The Thar vehicle used during the shoot was also seized.

The two youths have been identified as Chintu Saraniya from Barama.

Officer-in-Charge Bhaskar Patowari said that the weapon seen in the video was not a real firearm. “We have detained one youth involved in the incident. It was not an actual pistol, but a pistol-shaped lighter,” he said.

Police further revealed that the video was originally uploaded on Facebook in 2023 and had recently resurfaced after being shared again on social media platforms.

Investigators also found that the pistol-shaped lighter had been purchased from a shop in Paltan Bazar. Police said the shop will be questioned as part of the inquiry.

Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who creates or shares similar content on social media in the future.
