BJP Split into Three Factions, Claims Gaurav Gogoi; Alleges Vote Rigging Ahead of Polls

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam has split into three distinct factions, exposing deep internal conflicts within the ruling party.

Reacting to Raijor Dal’s deadline on seat-sharing, Gogoi said the public should closely observe the internal conflicts among the BJP’s factions, adding that the time for seat-sharing discussions has not yet arrived. He asserted that the BJP is divided not into two, but three camps.

According to Gogoi, the three factions are led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia. Taking a sharp dig, he remarked that anyone wishing to align with the Chief Minister’s camp would first have to remove posters of Sarbananda Sonowal.

Gogoi further alleged that the BJP has failed to finalise seat-sharing arrangements even in key regions such as Upper Assam, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), and Rabha Hasong, claiming that the state BJP leadership remains consumed by internal power struggles.

Responding to remarks made about his ancestors and the formation of “Greater Assam,” Gogoi said that during the tenure of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, all communities—including Bodos and Rabhas—were accorded respect. In contrast, he alleged that under the current Chief Minister’s leadership, conflicts have emerged across Karbi Anglong, Bodoland, and the Barak Valley, with little room for dialogue.

On the issue of alleged vote rigging, Gogoi said the Congress has filed an FIR in connection with the reported vote theft incident in Boko. 

Accusing the ruling party of undermining democratic rights, Gogoi alleged that citizens’ right to vote is being curtailed and that the voters’ list is being used as a political tool. He added that the Congress has demanded police action in the matter and announced that the party will hold a protest programme in Rangia later today.
