Extra marital affair ends in Double Tragedy: Young Mother and Infant Found Dead in Assam

A quiet village in Chabua was shaken by grief and disbelief after a young mother and her two-month-old baby were found dead in what is being alleged as a case of suicide and infanticide linked to marital discord.

The heartbreaking incident occurred at Chabua, Dibrugarh causing panic in the locality. The deceased has been identified as Karisma Das, wife of Ratul Das.

According to preliminary allegations made by Karisma’s maternal family members, the couple had been facing prolonged disputes over Ratul Das’s alleged extramarital relationship. Family members claim the tension in the household had been escalating for several days prior to the incident.

On the fateful day, Karisma allegedly took the extreme step inside her home after killing her two-month-old infant. Her sister, speaking to the media, said the couple had been locked in repeated arguments over the alleged affair, which deeply affected Karisma emotionally. “They had been fighting for many days. The situation kept worsening, and finally she took this extreme step,” she stated.

The tragedy has raised painful questions about the emotional toll of unresolved marital conflicts and the silent suffering that often remains hidden behind closed doors. Neighbours described the family as quiet, with no visible signs of the turmoil that was reportedly unfolding within.

Police from Chabua arrived at the scene soon after the incident was reported and have launched an investigation. Officials stated that the exact sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the deaths will be established only after a thorough probe.

Authorities have urged the public not to speculate until the investigation is complete.
