A native of Medhikuchi village, he received his early education at Shankardev Shishu Niketan in his home village, where his passion for learning first took shape.From these humble beginnings, Jugal steadily progressed toward academic excellence, eventually finding his place among the brightest minds in the global scientific community.A Trail of Academic ExcellenceIn 2010, Jugal topped the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination in the state from Shankardev Shishu Niketan, Choukhuty, a remarkable achievement that brought him early recognition. He then enrolled in the science stream at Bajali College.Continuing his stellar performance, he secured sixth rank in the state in the Higher Secondary Examination (Science) in 2012. Despite having opportunities to pursue engineering and medical education, Jugal chose to follow his true calling—physics.Shaping a Scientific CareerJugal went on to study at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 2017. His academic journey then took him to the United States, where he completed his doctoral degree at the University of Oklahoma, supported by the prestigious Homer Aldridge Fellowship in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.Following his doctorate, Jugal joined the research group of renowned physicist Professor Prineha Narang at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), working as a quantum science researcher.A Historic Moment for AssamIn a significant milestone for Assam and the Assamese scientific community, Jugal Talukdar became the first Assamese to be appointed Chairman of the FGSA unit of the American Physical Society.
