"Assam"s second ultra-modern post office, designed to appeal to the Gen Z generation, was inaugurated on the campus of Dibrugarh University on Monday. The facility was formally opened by Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Jiten Hazarika, marking another milestone in the modernisation of postal services in the state.Advertisment Following the launch of Assam"s first such post office at Gauhati University, the Dibrugarh University branch becomes the second in the state to be developed as a “Gen Z Hangout Zone.” The initiative aims to modernise traditional post offices while making postal and financial services more accessible and attractive to young people. The India Postal Department is rolling out Gen Z–themed post offices at several universities across the country, marking a significant step toward bringing modern, student-friendly postal facilities closer to students, researchers, and the wider campus community. The initiative began with the inauguration of the first such post office at IIT Delhi. With rapid digitisation, post offices are no longer confined to handling letters and correspondence alone. They have evolved into comprehensive service centres offering a wide range of financial and digital services. Reflecting this transformation, the newly inaugurated post offices have been specially designed with a youth-friendly environment. The premises showcase paintings of eminent personalities associated with Assam"s language, literature, and culture, blending heritage with modern design. Additional amenities such as a landscaped garden, dedicated study spaces, and recreational areas have also been created to provide a welcoming and multifunctional public space. Replacing the conventional red letter post box, a uniquely designed post box inspired by the historic Rang Ghar of the Ahom era has been installed at the front, symbolising a fusion of tradition and innovation. To enhance customer service, the post office has adopted advanced digital technologies, including the Core System Integrator (CSI), Core Banking Solution (CBS), and DARPAN devices. These systems are expected to improve efficiency, transparency, and ease of access for users. The inauguration of the Gen Z Hangout Zone post office at Dibrugarh University underscores the Department of Posts" commitment to modernisation while preserving Assam"s rich cultural identity.
