Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently shared Anjali’s inspiring journey on his X account, highlighting how government support, when used wisely, can transform lives. The Chief Minister recalled that after the largest-ever Jhumoir Binandini performance, every participating artist was honoured with a grant of ₹25,000 as a token of appreciation.

One of those performers was Anjali Kairi. Instead of spending the money on short-term needs, she made a bold and practical decision. Anjali invested the grant in purchasing an e-rickshaw, creating a sustainable source of income for herself.

“Young Anjali Kairi made productive use of the grant, purchased an e-rickshaw and has created an income opportunity for herself. More power to Anjali,” the Chief Minister wrote, applauding her determination.

Speaking to the media, Anjali’s father shared his pride and emotions. “My daughter had gone to perform the Jhumoir dance, and the Chief Minister gave her ₹25,000 along with the other performers. With that money, we bought this e-rickshaw,” he said.

Anjali’s story is rooted in everyday struggles familiar to many families. A college student herself, with a younger brother also pursuing his studies, she comes from a household where her father works as a daily wage labourer. Managing expenses was often a challenge.

“I didn’t feel good asking my father for money anymore, as we are grown-ups now,” Anjali said. “It was difficult for our family. After buying the e-rickshaw, I feel proud that I can do something on my own. I am self-reliant now.”

Her journey from performing a traditional dance on a grand stage to steering her own livelihood on the streets stands as a symbol of empowerment, dignity, and smart use of opportunity. Anjali Kairi’s story is not just about financial independence—it is about confidence, responsibility, and the transformative impact of belief and support.
