Husband runs the show in Hailakandi, echoing popular web series Panchayat

In a shocking revelation, husbands of elected women representatives in Hailakandi district have been found to be running the show from behind the scenes, mirroring the plot of the popular Indian web series Panchayat.

State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjit Das's surprise visit to the Hailakandi Block Development Office exposed the truth, with three husbands of women Gaon Panchayat Sarpanches and Zilla Parishad members found to be present in a meeting with the minister.

Minister Das, who was there to verify allegations of husbands calling the shots, immediately removed the trio from the meeting and appealed to the people of Hailakandi to be vigilant. He also directed the Zilla Parishad executive officer to take action against those involved.

The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of the Panchayati Raj system, which aims to empower women in rural governance. Minister Das assured that action will be taken based on the inquiry report into allegations of corruption in the formation of the Hailakandi Zilla Parishad board.

The district commissioner's investigation is underway, and the outcome is eagerly awaited. Meanwhile, the people of Hailakandi are hoping for genuine empowerment of women representatives and an end to proxy politics.
