Top StoriesOne MLA, Two Constituencies: Kamalakhya De Purkayastha's Dual Entry in 2026 Voter List sparks controversyNorth Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya De Purkayastha has allegedly been listed in two different Assembly constituencies on the recently released 2026 voter roll.DY365 Feb 11, 2026 16:03 ISTA controversy has erupted in the Barak Valley after the name of North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya De Purkayastha was found listed in two different Assembly constituencies in the final voter list for 2026.AdvertismentThe development comes at a time when the ongoing Special Revision (SR) process has reportedly led to the deletion of thousands of names from the state’s electoral rolls. Against this backdrop, the inclusion of a sitting MLA’s name in two constituencies has triggered sharp reactions from various quarters.According to the final voter list published yesterday, Kamalakhya De Purkayastha’s name has been newly included in the Katigorah Assembly constituency. At the same time, his name continues to appear in the North Karimganj Assembly constituency, which he currently represents. In Katigorah, his name is listed at Serial No. 1126 in Room No. 1 of Polling Station No. 812 (Manipur LP School). The Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number mentioned is DML1411376, and his father’s name is recorded as Kaushik Ranjan De Purkayastha.Simultaneously, in the North Karimganj Assembly constituency, his name appears at Serial No. 664 under 1–Karimganj Municipality, Ward No. 15, Block 1. The EPIC number there is also DML1411376, with the same paternal details. At the same polling station in North Karimganj, at Serial No. 664, the name of his wife, Pinky De Purkayastha, is also included in the voter list. What has drawn particular attention is that the EPIC number—DML1411376—remains identical in both constituencies, raising questions about how the duplication occurred in the revised electoral roll.Locals have pointed out that the Special Revision (SR) process is intended to update electoral rolls by removing the names of voters who have shifted residence, migrated to other states, or are otherwise no longer eligible at a particular location. In such a scenario, they argue, the presence of a sitting MLA’s name in two separate constituencies after the publication of the final list is surprising and concerning. The issue has sparked widespread discussion and criticism across the Barak region, with many demanding clarification from the Election authorities regarding the apparent duplication. As reactions continue to pour in, all eyes are now on the officials concerned for an explanation. Also Read: Assam CM Hits Back at Pawan Khera Over Bangladeshi Cleric AllegationsAdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
