A devastating fire broke out at a popular nightclub in North Goa's Arpora village, located in Romeo Lane, claiming the lives of 23 people, mostly employees of the club, including three women and 20 men. The incident occurred around 12:04 am on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

According to Goa Police Chief Alok Kumar, the deceased were primarily staff members, and some tourists were also among the victims. The nightclub, often packed with domestic and foreign tourists, was reduced to ashes in the fire.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, stating, "The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones." 

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the scene, ordering a high-level investigation into the incident, hinting at possible illicit activities behind the blaze.

The state government has ordered an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess whether fire safety norms and building rules were followed. Goa MLA Michael Lobo has called for a safety audit of all clubs in Goa, emphasizing the need for vigilance .

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, and authorities worked through the night to contain the situation. The death toll may rise as investigations continue
