Nidarshana Sarma Feb 27, 2026 13:52 ISTFormer Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday welcomed the court’s decision to discharge him and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi Excise Policy case, calling it a victory of truth and justice.AdvertismentAddressing the media shortly after the verdict, Kejriwal said, “The way the BJP government was screaming ‘liquor scam’ in recent times and blaming us, today the court has dismissed all the accusations. All the accused have been discharged. I always said that truth will triumph. I believe in the justice system of India. I thank the judge for the honest judgment—truth has prevailed.”He alleged that the case was a political conspiracy aimed at weakening the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).“Modi and Amit Shah teamed up to create the largest conspiracy in independent India to destroy the AAP. The five most prominent leaders of the party were put behind bars. Even a sitting Chief Minister was pulled out of his house and put in jail for six months—something that has never happened before. Our Deputy CM, Manish Sisodia, was kept in jail for two years, all for a fake case,” he said.AdvertismentKejriwal further claimed that a sustained media campaign was run against him and his party. He broke down in tears during the interaction.“In my life, I have only earned honesty. And today, it has been proved by the court that Kejriwal, Sisodia, and the whole of AAP are honest, not corrupt,” he added.Taking a direct swipe at the Prime Minister, Kejriwal said, “I want to say to the Prime Minister of India that if you want power, do not go through such methods. Do good work. We have so many problems in the country—poor roads, inflation, and unemployment. Fix them and come to power. But do not attack me with fake cases like these. Producing fake cases against the Opposition does not suit a prime minister."AdvertismentBackgroundArvind Kejriwal was arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of Delhi’s 2021–22 Excise Policy. Investigating agencies had alleged that the policy was designed to benefit certain private players and that kickbacks were routed to AAP leaders. The AAP, however, consistently denied the allegations, calling the case politically motivated. With the court now discharging the accused, Kejriwal and his party have termed the verdict a vindication of their stand. Also Read: "We Wanted Speedy Justice": Garima Reacts After Assam Cabinet Seeks Fast-Track CourtAdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
