As per highly placed sources, the case first came to light last month when police received inputs about the suspicious activities of a youth from Kashmir.

During the investigation of a case registered at Chimpu Police Station in Itanagar, officers detained a young man identified as Nazir Ahmed Malik from Kupwara district in Jammu & Kashmir — an area long known for terror activities.

According to police sources, data extracted from Malik’s seized mobile phone revealed that he had been secretly gathering details about military camps, troop movements, and other strategic information in Arunachal Pradesh. He reportedly transmitted this information to an ISI handler in Pakistan through encrypted messages on Telegram.

Further investigation led to the arrest of another Kashmiri youth, Sabir Ahmed Mir, from the Abotani Colony area in Itanagar. Both suspects are currently being interrogated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Itanagar. Police have not issued an official statement yet, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing probe.

Significantly, the arrests come barely six days after Pakistan made a provocative claim describing Arunachal Pradesh as part of China. The revelation that ISI-linked operatives were supplying intelligence from within the state has triggered serious concern in security circles.

Sources added that both youths had recently travelled to areas along the China border in Arunachal Pradesh. Investigators have also recovered numerous deleted messages from their mobile phones, which are now being examined for further leads.

Both arrested suspects are currently in judicial custody and have been lodged at the District Jail in Jullang, Itanagar.
