"Sibsagar MLA and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi on Monday levelled explosive allegations against the Assam BJP leadership, claiming that the ruling party orchestrated a systematic plan to manipulate the voter list through a video conference conducted by state BJP president Dilip Saikia on January 4, 2026.Advertisment Speaking during a Facebook Live session, Gogoi said the video conference was attended by BJP ministers, MLAs, district presidents and party workers, and was held amid the party"s wall-writing campaign ahead of upcoming elections. Gogoi claimed he came across the video conference from a particular location but chose only to listen, fearing his presence would be detected if he actively joined. He said another leader from his party had also heard the proceedings. “I was shocked by what I heard. I could not sleep that night, and that is why I decided to come live and place the facts before the people,” Gogoi said. According to Gogoi, Dilip Saikia praised Minister Jogen Mohan during the meeting and later instructed party functionaries to submit a list of BJP MLAs who were absent from the video conference. Gogoi further alleged that the BJP president directed MLAs to carry out wall-writing campaigns involving at least 500 people across the state on January 5. More seriously, Gogoi alleged that the video conference included discussions on the ongoing Special Revision (SR) of electoral rolls in Assam, during which Saikia allegedly used strong language against MLAs for not giving “adequate priority” to the process. Gogoi further claimed that Minister Ashok Singhal was assigned responsibility over at least 60 constituencies, with what he described as a “free hand” to exclude names from the voter list in order to strengthen the BJP"s electoral prospects. “Instructions were given to MLAs, district presidents and mandal presidents to submit booth-level lists identifying voters whose names should be deleted in constituencies where the BJP does not expect votes,” Gogoi alleged. He further claimed that party functionaries were directed to complete the process of removing names by January 12, while separately identifying voters to be added in constituencies where the BJP is considered weak. Escalating his attack, Gogoi said he had personally tagged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a Facebook post before going live, stating that the Chief Minister had previously said he watches Gogoi"s live videos. Gogoi also alleged that during recent interactions with some MLAs inside the Assam Assembly, he was told that the Chief Minister had allegedly instructed legislators to exclude at least 10,000 names from voter lists in their respective constituencies, while also facilitating additions where required. Challenging the government, Gogoi said he was willing to undergo a narco analysis test if his allegations were proven false and claimed that he had an eyewitness who also heard the video conference conducted by Dilip Saikia. Demanding accountability, Gogoi called for a CBI probe or a judicial inquiry to ascertain the veracity of his claims. Additionally, Gogoi alleged that following delimitation, Minister Ashok Singhal—whom he described as having come from outside the state—had allegedly restructured constituencies dominated by Moran, Matak, Ahom, Koch Rajbongshi and tea tribe communities, claiming this was done to create electoral advantages for the BJP under the Chief Minister"s direction. The BJP and the Assam government have not yet issued an official response to the allegations. The claims, if substantiated, could have serious implications as the voter list revision process continues across the state.
