The visit is politically significant, as action against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh remains a key poll issue for the BJP ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.

Shah is expected to arrive in Assam on February 20 and will reach Natanpur village, near the international border, the following morning. On February 21, he will attend the Vibrant Villages Programme 2.0 (VVP 2.0) event.

Ahead of the visit, State Minister Kaushik Rai, Cachar District Commissioner Ayush Garg, Superintendent of police Partha Pratim Das, along with officers from the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police, inspected Natanpur to review preparations and security arrangements.

Natanpur, located in the Katigorah area, has seen over 200 illegal migrants, including Bangladeshi and Myanmar nationals, apprehended in recent years.

The VVP, organised by the Home Ministry, aims to promote livelihood generation, tourism, cultural heritage, skill development, and strengthen agriculture and allied sectors.

Following the border visit, Shah will travel to Guwahati to participate in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Raising Day celebrations at Sarusajai Stadium.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma noted that this is the first time the CRPF is holding its Raising Day event outside its campus in Assam, making it accessible to the public.

CRPF director general G P Singh, who was previously the Assam director general of police (DGP), will also attend the ceremony.
