AdvertismentArmed gangs have allegedly been targeting residential areas, including apartment complexes, prompting fear among residents and renewed scrutiny of police preparedness.One of the latest incidents was reported from Guwahati’s Beltola area, where a group of six to seven armed dacoits allegedly entered an apartment named ‘Nirupama Enclave’ late on Thursday night and carried out a burglary. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred in Blocks A and B of the apartment complex. CCTV footage from the premises reportedly captured the movement of the suspects during the incident.Another theft was reported on Friday from the Jatia area under Kahilipara, where thieves allegedly broke into a house in the absence of the occupants. The accused are said to have made away with cash and gold ornaments. Residents of the Ananda Nagar area of Jatia have claimed that incidents of theft and burglary have become frequent in the locality.Meanwhile, the dacoity case reported from Ganeshpara on January 19 remains unsolved. Even after 12 days, the city police have not been able to trace the dacoit gang involved in the incident. The Crime Branch has taken over the investigation and is monitoring the progress of the case. So far, police have arrested two youths in connection with alleged reconnaissance related to the crime.The recent incidents, reported at the beginning of the New Year, have once again raised questions about the safety of residents in Guwahati.
