Assam: Ajit Bhuyan Launches Scathing Attack on Bhupen Borah, Alleges Political Compromise

Guwahati: Senior political leader Ajit Bhuyan has launched a sharp attack on Bhupen Borah, accusing him of acting as a BJP agent while holding a senior position within the Congress party. Bhuyan claimed that Bora’s recent political decisions were not sudden but part of a calculated shift driven by personal interests rather than ideology.

Speaking strongly on the current state of politics, Bhuyan said the situation reflected a “complete erosion of principled politics." According to him, although suspicions had long surrounded Bora’s conduct, it had been difficult for many to question him openly. He alleged that Bora had ultimately fallen into the “political trap” of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Bhuyan further argued that personal grievances or disagreements could not justify what he described as “political surrender." He accused Borah of transforming into an opportunistic and power-hungry leader, even claiming that he had gone to great lengths to please the chief minister.

Referring to the internal situation within the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (Reform), Bhuyan alleged that the body was effectively functioning under the influence of the Chief Minister. He warned that if others within the Congress shared similar inclinations, it would be better for them to leave the party rather than damage it from within.

Bhuyan also invoked historical political rivalries dating back to the era of former Assam Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia, suggesting long-standing political alignments and compromises.

In a dramatic remark, he questioned how a leader who had once publicly sworn allegiance at Kamakhya Temple could take such a turn. Bhuyan concluded by alleging that the entire episode resembled a scripted political drama orchestrated by the Chief Minister, with Borah playing a predetermined role.
