Assam Assembly to Begin Budget Session From February 16

The Assam Assembly’s Budget Session begins on Feb 16 in Dispur. The 2026–27 state budget is likely on Feb 17, focusing on development priorities and allocations.

Guwahati: The Assam Legislative Assembly is set to convene its Budget Session from February 16, 2026, marking the start of crucial financial deliberations ahead of the new fiscal year.

According to a notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has formally summoned the session. Proceedings will commence at 9:30 am in the Assembly Chamber at Dispur, with the Governor expected to attend the opening sitting.

Reports indicate that the Assam Budget for 2026–27 is likely to be presented on February 17, although the exact date will be finalised after deliberations of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).

The Budget Session is expected to witness extensive discussions on Assam’s economic direction, development strategies, and sector-specific spending plans. With infrastructure growth and welfare initiatives remaining high on the state government’s agenda, the session is seen as a key platform for outlining priorities ahead of the next financial year.

Parliament’s Budget Session

Even as Assam gears up for its Budget Session, preparations are also in motion at the national level. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will chair an all-party meeting on January 27 to build consensus ahead of Parliament’s Budget Session.

The meeting, scheduled to be held in the main Committee Room of Parliament, will bring together floor leaders from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Discussions are expected to focus on legislative priorities and coordination to ensure smooth proceedings.

Parliament’s Budget Session will run from January 28 to April 2, divided into two segments. The first phase will conclude on February 13, followed by a recess, while the second phase will resume on March 9 and continue until April 2. A total of 30 sittings are planned during the session.

The Union Budget for 2026–27 will be presented on February 1, with the session opening formally with an address by President Droupadi Murmu to members of both Houses.
