AssamAssam: Bike Lifters Open Fire on Youth Chasing Them in Sivasagar's DimowAmid heightened security arrangements ahead of Republic Day, two bike lifters fired shots at a man who was pursuing them after they stole a motorcycle in broad daylight in Sivasagar, Assam.DY365 Jan 25, 2026 17:42 ISTSivasagar: Amid heightened security arrangements ahead of Republic Day, two bike lifters fired shots at a man who was pursuing them after they stole a motorcycle in broad daylight in Sivasagar, Assam.AdvertismentAs per reports, the incident took place in the Rajmai weekly market under Dimow Police Station jurisdiction in Sivasagar.The theft occurred when two individuals suspected to be bike lifters attempted to steal a black Pulsar motorcycle (registration no AS04Z7454) belonging to Biman Roy of Nitai Pukhuri, Dimow, which was parked at Rajmai weekly market on Sunday.Alerted by the commotion caused by the bike's owner and onlookers, Mustaqur Rahman, a youth who was passing by in his car at the time, immediately gave chase to the fleeing thieves.The thieves managed to ride away with the stolen Pulsar towards Sivasagar town. As Mustaqur Rahman closed in on them near the Japisajia area along National Highway 37, one of the thieves pulled out a pistol and fired directly at him to evade capture.Fortunately, Mustaqur Rahman ducked inside his car, thereby saving his life from the gunfire. He escaped unhurt, but the attack has raised serious concerns about the criminals in the region.The incident took place even as elaborate security measures were in place across the district in view of Republic Day celebrations.Police from Dimow station have launched an investigation into the theft and the subsequent shooting.
