"Assam is set to witness the beginning of a new chapter in higher education with the establishment of Veerangana Kanaklata Baruah State University.Advertisment Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated the Amrit Kalash Yatra, marking the ceremonial commencement of soil filling for the University. Unlike earlier universities such as Dibrugarh University and Gauhati University, which were developed from scratch, the new institution has been established within the premises of an existing university. IIT Guwahati professor Parameswar Iyer has been entrusted with the responsibility of mentoring the new university. As part of the nationwide "Meri Maati Mera Desh" campaign, Assam collected a total of 540 Amrit Kalash (urns containing sacred soil) from 270 development blocks and urban local bodies across the state. Of these, one urn from each area was sent to New Delhi via the Rajdhani Express for the creation of the Amrit Vatika near Kartavya Path, while the remaining urns have been preserved at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. These urns will be ceremonially carried to the university site ahead of its foundation stone-laying ceremony. She will first visit the semi-conductor unit at Jagiroad, where she will interact with around 300 promising young entrepreneurs. Later in the day, she will inaugurate the Gateway of Guwahati"s river terminal and the newly constructed Brahmaputra Riverfront at Uzanbazar. On November 8, the foundation stone and Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of Veerangana Kanaklata Baruah State University will be held in memory of the iconic freedom fighter who sacrificed her life while hoisting the national flag during India"s independence movement. The following day, November 9, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Assam to attend an Air Show at Lachit Ghat, where cutting-edge fighter aircraft including Rafale and Sukhoi jets will be showcased in the state for the first time. In December, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the new airport terminal and lay the foundation stone for the New Fertilizer complex in Dibrugarh. He will return in January to inaugurate the Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge over River Brahmaputra and attend an event at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati. Towards the end of December or early January, the Union Home Minister is also expected to visit Assam to inaugurate the Jyoti–Bishnu auditorium, review the Batadrava project, and attend a booth-level workers" conference. Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I had scheduled 12 meetings in Bihar over three days, but will be able to conduct only nine. I was requested to extend my visit, but due to the upcoming visits of Union Ministers to Assam, I will not be able to hold the remaining meetings. I"ll leave for Bihar today to attend the scheduled programmes.”"
