Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has indicated that Bir Lachit Sena may soon face a ban in the state, likening its activities to those of the banned outfit ULFA.

Speaking to the media, Sarma accused the group of creating a disruptive environment through extortion, violence, and harassment of businesses.

“Bir Lachit Sena may be banned, much like ULFA, for its actions,” the Chief Minister said.

He claimed that the group has been extorting money, assaulting individuals, and disturbing the state’s peace.

Without directly naming him, Sarma also targeted Bikash Assam, a key figure associated with Bir Lachit Sena, accusing him of insulting Assam’s mothers and sisters.

“I have instructed the police to take the strictest possible action against this individual,” Sarma said, claiming that stringent measures will be enforced against the accused for disrespecting the state’s dignity.

The CM said that while he could not name the person directly and had no intentions to name him, he asserted that the government would take all possible measures.

He further said that no other organisation except for the Bir Lachit Sena has been disturbing businesses in Assam.
