"Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that lookout notices have been issued for Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma in connection with the investigation into the death of Zubeen Garg.Advertisment Sarma has also demanded that both individuals appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Guwahati by October 6, warning that failure to comply would prompt Assam Police to take all necessary steps to ensure their return. Sarma claimed that the state was committed to delivering justice for Garg, whom he described as a cultural luminary comparable to Bhupen Hazarika and Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. “Years ago, I warned that some individuals were exploiting Zubeen. Now, based on police documents, we need to question Mahanta and Sharma. If they"re innocent, they must come to Assam and provide their statements. Social media posts won"t shield them from accountability,” he stated. The Chief Minister emphasised that the investigation would remain impartial, unaffected by political pressure. “The law will hold everyone accountable. If you"re guilty, you"ll face consequences; if innocent, you"ll be cleared. But no one can evade justice in Zubeen"s Assam. We won"t let this turn into chaos,” he said, urging calm to prevent unrest. Sarma also claimed that Mahanta"s bank accounts, PAN card, and credit cards have been frozen to prevent any attempts to flee. The post-mortem report from Guwahati is nearing completion, which he said would provide further clarity. Additionally, Sarma has written to the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, requesting a judicial commission led by a sitting judge to ensure transparency. He added that the case could be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if Assam Police cannot deliver results. Addressing attempts to politicise the case, Sarma dismissed the relevance of circulating social media photos, stating, “I meet countless people and take photos daily. That doesn"t imply I endorse illegal actions. Justice for Zubeen is my responsibility, and we must focus on facts.” Sarma issued a final warning to Mahanta and Sharma, saying, “Do not test the patience of Assam"s people. By October 6, you must appear before the CID in Guwahati. If you try to escape, Assam Police will take every measure to bring you back.”"
