As per reports, an investigation has been ordered into the actions of Senior Medical & Health Officer Dr. Kantheswar Bordoloi.

According to a show-cause notice issued by the Office of the District Commissioner, Morigaon, on September 5, 2025, Dr Bordoloi performed an extraordinary 21 lower-segment cesarean sections (LSCS) in a single operating theatre over a 10-hour period, from 3:40 PM on September 5 to 1:50 AM on September 6, 2025.

The notice, issued by Additional District Commissioner (Health) Nitisha Bora following an inspection of the hospital’s maternity ward on September 6, demands a thorough explanation from Dr Bordoloi regarding the intense workload, adherence to medical protocols, and the state of documentation.

The investigation is focused on ensuring patient safety, maintaining infection control, and verifying compliance with standard medical procedures. During the inspection, officials discovered that preoperative and postoperative records were inadequately maintained, which has heightened concerns about the risk of infections and the overall safety of patients.

To address these issues, Bora has directed Dr Bordoloi to submit detailed reports within three days, covering several critical aspects of the procedures. He must provide comprehensive accounts of all 21 LSCS operations, outlining the specifics of each case. Additionally, he is required to explain the steps taken to prepare each patient for surgery, ensuring that proper protocols were followed.

The notice also seeks verification that sterilisation procedures for surgical instruments were strictly adhered to, along with a detailed description of the standard operating procedures applied.

Furthermore, Dr Bordoloi must submit records justifying the need for emergency C-sections, particularly for any high-risk or critically ill patients, and clarify the roles and responsibilities of the assisting staff during the operations.

Officials are now scrutinising whether all protocols, particularly those related to sterilisation, were meticulously followed during the rapid series of surgeries.
