Assam: CPI-M Announces Three Candidates for BTC Elections

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, aiming to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in key constituencies.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in Assam'sBodoland Territorial Region, aiming to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in key constituencies.

The candidates are Shubhankar Ghosh for the 19th Thuribari constituency, Satyajit Das for the 20th constituency, and Nikunja Bodo Choudhury for the 30th Goreswar constituency.

CPI(M) has called for a united effort to defeat the BJP across all constituencies in the BTC elections.

The party has expressed its willingness to support any political group capable of defeating the BJP in constituencies beyond the three where it has fielded candidates. A decision on extending support to other parties will be made after careful evaluation.

The CPI(M) has accused the BJP of creating divisions and conflicts among various communities in the BTC region. The party also alleged that the BJP has betrayed its ally, the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), as part of its political strategy.

Addressing the lack of an alliance with the Congress, CPI(M) leaders revealed that despite personal outreach and written communication to Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, no positive response was received. The Congress has decided to field candidates in all 40 BTC seats, ignoring CPI(M)’s proposal for an alliance.

However, CPI(M) remains hopeful of collaborating with like-minded forces in at least 26 constituencies to counter the BJP’s influence.
