One suspected drug peddler was apprehended during the operation, marking another success in the state’s ongoing #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the seizure on his official X account, stating, “Think you can evade Assam Police? Another drug peddler caught in our relentless fight against narcotics.”

It may be mentioned that Yaba, a synthetic drug combining methamphetamine and caffeine, is highly addictive and poses a severe threat, particularly to young people.

Known for its bright, colourful tablets, Yaba is often marketed as a party drug but can cause severe health issues, including heart problems, paranoia, and addiction.

Its rising popularity in Northeast India has alarmed officials, prompting intensified efforts to curb its spread.

A senior police official emphasised the operation’s role in the broader fight against drug trafficking. “Yaba’s impact on Assam’s youth is devastating. We are committed to disrupting these networks and bringing perpetrators to justice,” the officer stated.

This bust follows another recent success in Kamrup district, where police intercepted a vehicle smuggling 910 grams of heroin from Churachandpur, Manipur. The narcotics were cleverly concealed in 74 soap boxes hidden within the vehicle’s door panels and rear compartment, highlighting the sophisticated methods used by traffickers.
