Assam Congress Slams CM Sarma, Calls Allegations Against Gaurav Gogoi False

Guwahati: Assam Congress MPs Rakibul Hussain and Pradyut Bordoloi on Monday strongly countered allegations by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claiming that state Congress president and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi had “Pakistan links,” terming the charges politically motivated and personally targeted.

Speaking at a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan, Guwahati, Bordoloi said the accusations were part of a deliberate strategy to mislead voters and influence the upcoming elections. “A false narrative is being constructed to divert public attention and tarnish the image of our leader,” he asserted.

Hussain described the allegations as a “farce” and claimed they emerged only after Gaurav Gogoi began gaining prominence within the state Congress, reflecting the Chief Minister’s political insecurity. He also condemned the personal attacks on Gogoi’s minor children. “We have exercised restraint for a long time, but now we feel unsafe. While we initially avoided legal action, we are exploring all options,” Hussain said.

Assam Congress leaders indicated that they may invoke child protection laws against the Chief Minister, questioning what wrongdoing could be attributed to Gogoi’s children. Legal counsel will be sought before taking any formal steps.
