Assam: First “Hadug Mela 2025” to be held at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

For the first time, the Eco Development Committees of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary are set to organize “Hadug Mela 2025”, a three-day cultural and traditional fair, from December 26 to 28. The venue for this unique event is Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, renowned as the roaming ground of the one-horned rhinoceros.

According to the organizers, preparations for the maiden edition of the Hadug Mela have been completed, and the event is ready to begin. The fair aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage, traditional livelihoods, and community-based initiatives of the villages surrounding the sanctuary.

The mela will feature a wide range of locally produced items by the Eco Development Committees, including textiles and handloom products, water hyacinth crafts, bamboo and cane items, traditional ornaments, and an array of indigenous food delicacies. Alongside these exhibits, visitors will also get an opportunity to experience vibrant folk culture through traditional performances.

The inaugural ceremony of Hadug Mela 2025 will be marked by an auspicious Hadug Beel Puja, adding spiritual significance to the event and reflecting the deep cultural roots of the local community.

The Hadug Mela Celebration Committee has warmly appealed to the public to attend the fair in large numbers and extend their support and cooperation to make the first edition of Hadug Mela a grand success.
