Forest officials report that around 1,258 families, who have built homes and settlements within the reserved forest, have received notices to vacate. These occupants have been granted a 15-day period to leave voluntarily before the eviction operation begins.

The drive will target key areas, including Udmari, Jamunagaon, Nigam, and neighbouring villages within the forest belt. Authorities have been preparing for the operation over recent days, with the goal of reclaiming encroached land and protecting the region’s ecological balance.

Many local residents, some claiming decades-long residency in the area, have expressed distress and uncertainty about their future following the notices. The planned eviction has sparked widespread concern among affected communities.

Forest department officials underscored that the operation is part of a larger effort to restore Assam’s vital forest ecosystems by clearing illegal encroachments and ensuring environmental conservation.
