The verdict was announced on Monday, marking the culmination of a year-long trial.

The heinous crime took place on October 11, 2024, during the Navami celebrations of Durga Puja in the Madhura area of Udharbond, Cachar district. According to reports, the victim, a local minor girl, was out for a morning walk when Rajdeep Das abducted her. He forcibly took her to a nearby jungle, where he raped her before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim in a semi-conscious state.

Traumatised, the minor returned home and disclosed the incident to her family, who promptly lodged a complaint at the Udharbond Police Station. Acting swiftly, the police arrested Rajdeep Das on the same day. Following a thorough investigation, the case proceeded to trial.

After a year of legal proceedings, the court found Rajdeep Das guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. On Monday, the court pronounced its verdict, sentencing him to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment. Following the judgment, the convict was transferred from the court to Silchar Central Jail to serve his sentence.
