Assam: Garchuk-Deepor Beel Connecting Road Closed After Iron Bridge Collapses

Guwahati: The road connecting Garchuk to Deepor Beel has been completely closed after the iron bridge on the route collapsed. The bridge, which regularly carried heavy loads, developed a massive crack, creating a large gap in its structure and making it unsafe for vehicles.

Today, the Public Works Department (PWD) cordoned off both ends of the bridge, stopping all vehicular movement along the route. The department has informed local authorities about the damage and put safety measures in place to prevent accidents. Commuters and residents have been advised to avoid the area until repairs are completed.

Additionally, the repair work could take nearly a month. During this time, the road will remain inaccessible, forcing residents and travellers to use alternative routes for daily travel, transportation of goods, and emergency services.

The PWD assured that reconstruction work will be carried out as quickly as possible, prioritising both safety and restoration of connectivity between Garchuk and Deepor Beel. Also, they have urged the public to exercise caution and cooperate with repair operations. 

The closure highlights the need for careful monitoring of infrastructure that carries heavy loads to ensure public safety.
