He also stated that the directive prohibits the state government from providing financial grants, advertisements, or sponsorships to any event associated with Mahanta, whether directly or indirectly.

Furthermore, the Assam Government will formally request the Government of India to refrain from extending any financial support or sponsorship to Mahanta in any capacity.

The decision came after the tragic death of the Heartthrob of Assam, Zubeen Garg, in Singapore on September 19.
Zubeen Garg was in Singapore to attend the Northeast Festival organised by Mahanta.

Following the death, several FIRs were filed against Shyamkanu Mahanta and Zubeen's manager, Siddharth Sharma. Several people across Assam pointed out that Zubeen's death was not just an accident. People called for a thorough investigation into the incident.

It may be mentioned that Zubeen Garg was finally laid to rest on Tuesday with full state honours. His remains had to go through two post-mortems as his death remained a mystery.

Assam Government has assured that it would do all that may be needed to bring justice to the legendary singer, Zubeen Garg.
