AssamAssam: Govt Apathy Pushes Tamulpur Anganwadi to RuinAn Anganwadi centre in Tamulpur’s Maharipara Cholaidiya village is in a dilapidated state due to years of neglect, forcing workers to seek urgent repairs.Chandasmita Kashyap Feb 24, 2026 11:09 ISTGuwahati: An Anganwadi centre in Maharipara Cholaidiya village, under the Goreswar Integrated Child Development Project in Assam’s Tamulpur district, is reportedly in a dilapidated condition due to prolonged neglect by the Social Welfare Department.AdvertismentEstablished in 1999, the centre received a dedicated government building in 2009. Over the years, however, the structure has deteriorated severely, making it increasingly difficult for Anganwadi workers to conduct classes and provide proper care to children.Parents are now reportedly reluctant to send their children to the centre, fearing accidents as the roof and overall structure appear unstable and unsafe.Despite repeated appeals by the two Anganwadi workers to the Goreswar ICDS office, no effective steps have been taken to repair or maintain the facility.AdvertismentSpeaking to the media, one of the workers said, “During the rainy season, we are unable to conduct classes. There is no proper seating arrangement for the children. For the past six years, we have requested the Child Development Project Officer to inspect the centre. Officials have visited and taken photographs, and we have also submitted pictures, but no action has followed. I even installed roof sheets myself and repaired the door. We have around 20 to 25 children, and it is extremely challenging to provide them with basic facilities.”The workers have urged the government to undertake urgent repairs to ensure the safety of the children and restore smooth functioning of the centre.ALSO READ: Drug Haul Worth Rs 55 Lakh Seized in Shillong, Two HeldAdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
