Without a moment’s hesitation, he rushed to the public address system and announced over the loudspeaker: “An auto has fallen into the pond! Everyone, please come quickly to rescue the passengers!”The urgent call woke up the entire village. Dozens of residents, many still in nightclothes, ran to the spot with torches and ropes. Working together, they managed to pull out all seven passengers before the vehicle sank completely. None sustained serious injuries.Local residents described the imam’s swift action as the difference between life and death. “It was pitch dark and cold. If Maulana Sahab had not alerted us through the mike, those people would surely have drowned,” said a villager who took part in the rescue.The rescued passengers and their families have personally visited the mosque to thank Maulana Abdul Basit.
