Locals following the incident expressed outrage, alleging apparent inaction of the Kampur Forest Range Office.Despite repeated alerts from the locals, the forest department has allegedly not taken any steps to rescue or treat the ailing animal.The elephant bears visible injury marks on its leg, rendering it unable to move freely, a local said.They added, "Villagers had informed the forest department as soon as they sighted the injured jumbo, but no action has been taken so far. The stranded elephant has caused significant damage to crops in the paddy fields and has been creating disturbances in the village at night."They claimed that while the elephant is injured, it still raises a significant safety concern among the locals.Locals have demanded immediate intervention from the forest department to rescue the injured elephant and provide it with urgent medical care.It may be mentioned that man-elephant conflict is a major issue in Assam, and particularly in areas with paddy cultivation. Often this conflict leads to the loss of human life. In some cases, elephants are also killed owing to certain measures taken by farmers to protect their crops.The locals claimed that if the elephant goes on a rampage, it may bring a severe threat to human lives, as it is very close to a human settlement.
