A country-made firearm was seized from a man in the Kachua area of Kampur in Nagaon, Assam, on Friday as the accused took it to be repaired at a welding shop in the vicinity.

A country-made firearm was seized from a man in the Kachua area of Kampur in NagaonAssam, on Friday as the accused took it to be repaired at a welding shop in the vicinity.

Police said that the accused was arrested as he was found with an illegal pistol.

They added that the accused was identified as Hazral Ali, a resident of the Azar Bagan area in Kachua. Ali was apprehended as he took the gun to a welding shop in Kochua for repairs, police said.

This act by the accused alerted the locals, who informed the police about the illegal possession.

Based on the input from the locals, the police rushed to the spot and apprehended Ali from the shop. On searching him, the police recovered the gun and seized it immediately.

The police also informed that the said gun was a country-made pistol. The origin of the gun is currently under investigation.

They also informed that the police are currently checking for Ali’s links to possible criminal networks.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the BNS.
