Assam: One Arrested With Brown Sugar in Guwahati's Beltola

Guwahati: A man was arrested by the police near Survey in Guwahati, Assam, on Saturday evening with a consignment of suspected brown sugar.

Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a sedan bearing registration number AS01GL2703 at Beltola Survey and recovered suspected brown sugar from the vehicle.

Police said that they had specific information about a possible drug deal, and based on the input, they intercepted the vehicle and searched it.

During the search, officers found two soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing a total of 22.15 grams. The contraband was seized following due legal procedure, an official said.

One person, identified as Sandip Roy (35), was apprehended with the suspected consignment.

He is reported to be a resident of the Lichubagan area under the Dispur police station in Kamrup (Metro) district.

All seized items were brought to the police station, and further legal action is being initiated.

Police sources said that the suspect may have been involved in the interstate distribution of drugs and may have links to prime drug dealers. They claimed that attempts are being made to trace the source of the seized drugs.
