The deployment spans three cities with 100 buses for Guwahati in Assam, 50 for Bhavnagar in Gujarat, and 50 for Nagpur in Maharashtra. With this addition, JBM Auto’s operational electric bus fleet across India has surpassed 3,200 units.

The newly inducted buses are 9-metre, low-floor, air-conditioned models fitted with CCTV surveillance, automatic doors, and features designed to support elderly passengers and persons with disabilities. Intended primarily for intra-city operations, the buses aim to enhance last-mile connectivity while reducing vehicular emissions in urban areas.

Charging and depot facilities are being established in each of the three cities to ensure seamless daily operations once services commence in the coming weeks.

According to JBM Auto, its electric bus fleet has collectively travelled more than 300 million kilometres and carried over one billion passengers nationwide. The company estimates that its operations have helped prevent over one billion kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions since it began large-scale deployment of electric buses.

JBM manufactures its electric buses at what it describes as one of the largest dedicated e-bus production facilities outside China, with an annual manufacturing capacity of up to 20,000 units.

Speaking on the occasion, Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of JBM Auto, said India’s transition towards green mobility reflects the impact of policy direction and collaboration between the public and private sectors.

The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme is part of the Union government’s broader push to electrify public transport systems, particularly in cities lacking organised bus services. Officials view such initiatives as aligned with India’s commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2070.

In Guwahati, authorities said the induction of 100 electric buses would significantly strengthen the city’s public transport network, which has long depended on ageing diesel-operated vehicles.
