"GUWAHATI: Sajida Begum, a retired professor of Political Science at the erstwhile Cotton College (now Cotton University), passed away at the age of 80 in Dibrugarh due to age-related ailments. She was a resident of Convoy Road in the town.Advertisment Born in 1946 in Shillong, Begum completed her schooling there before pursuing higher education at Gauhati University, where she obtained her Master"s degree. She later joined the Department of Political Science at the erstwhile Cotton College and served the institution with distinction for several years. Known for her dedication to teaching and academic excellence, she eventually retired in 2003 as the head of the department. Begum was widely respected for her humility, grace and deep faith. She was married to Abul Khayer Khadimul Islam, a retired assistant professor of Assam Medical College and Hospital.Advertisment She is survived by her son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, a grandchild and a host of relatives. Her death has been widely mourned by relatives, former colleagues, students and well-wishers. She was laid to rest at the Naliapool Graveyard in the presence of family members and well-wishers.
