Guwahati: Renowned violinist and classical music expert Minati Khaund passed away on Sunday evening at a private hospital in Guwahati. She was 85.

The veteran artiste had been undergoing treatment for the past 40 days and breathed her last due to age-related ailments. Her demise marks an irreparable loss to Assam’s cultural and classical music fraternity.

Minati Khaund was a highly respected name in Indian classical music, known not only for her mastery of the violin but also for her role as a dedicated guru who mentored generations of students. In recognition of her invaluable contribution to the cultural world, she was honoured with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

She was also associated with Akashvani Guwahati Kendra as a B-High grade artiste, where her performances earned wide appreciation among listeners.

The mortal remains of the late artiste will be kept at the hospital morgue tonight. Her last rites will be performed tomorrow at the Navagraha crematorium.

Tributes have been pouring in from across the cultural spectrum, with fellow artistes and admirers remembering Minati Khaund as a disciplined musician, an inspiring teacher and a towering figure in Assam’s classical music landscape.
