Assam: Speeding Bolero Mows Down Three Schoolgirls, One Killed on Spot in Hajo

Hajo: A speeding Mahindra Bolero rammed into three Class-9 students who were walking to their tuition classes, killing one on the spot and leaving the other two critically injured in Hajo of Kamrup, Assam, on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Adnin Nehar (14), a student.

The two injured girls, both aged 14, are Sahin Akhtara and Najmin Akhtara. They were immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in a critical condition.

Eyewitnesses said the Bolero hit the girls from behind with tremendous force while they were walking along the roadside. Adnin died instantly.

Enraged over the tragedy, local residents and onlookers set the Bolero vehicle on fire. Thick plumes of smoke billowed from the burning SUV as angry crowds gathered at the site.

Hajo police and fire tenders reached the spot promptly, but tension continues to prevail in the area.

Police have seized the remains of the torched vehicle and launched an investigation. A case has been registered, and efforts are on to trace the driver who fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Local people have demanded immediate installation of speed breakers and stricter enforcement of traffic rules on the stretch, which has witnessed several fatal accidents in the past.
