Assam: Suspicious Death of Youth in Silapathar Sparks Outrage

Guwahati: A man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Silapathar in Assam’s Dhemaji district on Saturday night, sparking tension in the locality.

The deceased has been identified as Jayanta Dev Nath, son of Janaki Dev Nath and a resident of No. 2 Silagaon. The body was discovered at Baligaon, which falls under the jurisdiction of Silapathar Police Station.

According to local sources, Jayanta had stepped out of his house on Saturday evening to spend time with friends. At approximately 9.30 pm, he was found lying motionless by the roadside near Sila Jana Jati High School.

On being alerted, family members rushed to the spot and informed the police. Officers arrived shortly afterwards, recovered the body and shifted it to the police station to complete necessary legal procedures.

The family stated that Jayanta had been employed in Arunachal Pradesh and had recently returned home. They claimed he was with friends earlier in the evening and alleged that there were visible nail marks on his neck, raising suspicions of foul play. The family believes he may have been deliberately killed.

Demanding a detailed and impartial investigation, the family has appealed to the police to trace those responsible and ensure swift action.

Police said that an investigation has been initiated and further details are awaited.
