Locals report that the big cat was first spotted roaming in nearby Bangal Gaon a few days ago. Panic escalated on Saturday morning when a family in the affected area discovered one of their goats missing, with villagers strongly suspecting that the tiger dragged it away.

“The entire village is terrified. People are scared to step out after dark, and even during the day, children are not being sent to school,” said a local resident. Following multiple complaints, a team from the Forest Department rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. However, till late Sunday evening, forest officials have not been able to trace the tiger or install any camera traps in the area.

Forest officials have urged villagers to avoid venturing into fields alone, especially at dawn and dusk, and to immediately report any fresh sightings. The department has assured that efforts are on to either tranquilise and relocate the animal or drive it back deep into the nearby forest.

With human settlements located close to reserve forests and wetlands in the region, tiger movement into villages has become a recurring concern for residents of Dergaon and surrounding areas.
