AssamAssam Will Face Darker Days if BJP Stays in Power: Rajen GohainRajen Gohain warned that Assam will face darker days if BJP remains in power, accusing the government of dictatorship, failing to protect land, and harming democracy.DY365 Jan 09, 2026 13:14 ISTRajen Gohain Photograph: (Google)Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Rajen Gohain on Friday launched a fierce attack on the ruling BJP, alleging that democracy in Assam has been weakened under what he described as an increasingly authoritarian government.AdvertismentAddressing reporters, Gohain warned that the State would face “even more dangerous days” if the BJP continues in power. He urged citizens to reflect seriously ahead of the upcoming elections, cautioning that failure to change the government could push Assam into what he called “deep darkness”.“They have finished democracy through dictatorship,” Gohain alleged. “If this government remains in the future, people will be forced to endure extremely difficult times. It is now up to the people to decide their future.”Using a stark metaphor, the AJP leader compared the government’s functioning to a predator attacking its prey. “Just as a tiger leaps on a deer and destroys every part of it, this government has done the same to Assam over the past five years,” he claimed.Taking direct aim at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gohain criticised what he described as divisive rhetoric. “The Chief Minister repeatedly uses the word ‘Miya’, but what has he actually done to safeguard Assam?” he asked. “Which ‘Miya’ is he referring to when his own party is alleged to have secret understandings with leaders like Asaduddin Owaisi?”Gohain further accused the government of failing on key governance issues, particularly land protection. He alleged that instead of safeguarding the rights of local communities, the administration has allowed land to be transferred to outsiders. “Even in Sixth Schedule areas, this government has been unable to protect land. Apart from handing over land to others, it has done nothing for the people,” he said.Calling on voters to use their democratic power, Gohain said the forthcoming elections would be crucial for Assam’s future. “If the people do not remove this government, darker days lie ahead,” he warned, urging citizens to act decisively at the ballot box.ALSO READ: ‘Double Engine of Corruption’: Rahul Gandhi Dubs BJP ‘Bhrast Janata Party’AdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
